A young photographer and his assistant decide to take pictures of Tibetan nomads. Against diverse and more or less exotic backgrounds, families pose for the photographer. Through these shots, the photographer will weave unique links with each of the various villagers. Filmed from a single location, the families dressed in traditional Tibetan clothing seem out of place in front of the backgrounds of Disneyland and the Beijing Olympics venues. Butter Lamp is a reflection of the effects of modernity and globalisation, as well as an attempt to hold on to the past.
