Artist/filmmaker Afrah Shafiq leads a conversation between filmmakers Yashaswini Raghunandan, Arya Rothe and Hira Nabi on their non-fiction films that are showing at the festival—That Cloud Never Left, A Rifle and A Bag and All that Perishes at the Edge of Land.
Yashaswini Raghunandan is currently an artist in residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. She works in the field of film and sound.
Arya Rothe is an independent filmmaker from Pune, India. She graduated in 2016 from DocNomads. Before DocNomads, she studied at FAMU – National Film School of Czech Republic. Her short film, ‘Daughter’s Mother’ (2018) had its world premiere at 61st Dok Leipzig Film Festival.
Hira Nabi works with images and text to tell stories of the everyday. Her practice is concerned with the environment, the often unseen, and a slow process of re-earthing: by which she intends to shift focus away from anthropocentric stories into a more interconnected and larger witnessing of the times we live in. Her work has been shown at CPH:DOX, AFI Docs, Sundance, DokuFest, Havana film festival, Rencontres Internationales, and at art events including Colomboscope, Sonsbeek Quadrennial, Lahore Biennale. She lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan.
Afrah Shafiq is a multi/new media artist based out of Goa.
