Truong Minh Quý

Truong Minh Quý was born in Buon Ma Thuot, a small city in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. His work, blending documentary and fiction, draws on his homeland’s landscape, childhood memories, and Vietnam’s historical context. He experiments with abstract concepts and realistic improvisations. An alumnus of the 2012 Asian Film Academy and 2016 Berlinale Talents, his films have been showcased at major festivals like Locarno, New York, and Rotterdam. He won the Art Prize at the 20th VideoBrasil in 2017.

His second feature, The Tree House, premiered at the 72nd Locarno Film Festival and was praised by Mubi and The Film Stage. It screened at notable festivals, including the New York Film Festival and Vienna International Film Festival. In 2021, his film, Les Attendants, competed at the Berlinale. In 2024, Quy premiered his third feature film, Viet and Nam, at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section.
