Born in Tangier, Morocco, in 1980, Maryam Touzani began her career in journalism in London before returning to Morocco to specialise in North African cinema. She ventured into filmmaking with documentaries and gained acclaim with her short films, When They Slept and Aya Goes to The Beach, earning numerous awards. Her involvement in Much Loved led to co-writing Razzia, and representing Morocco at the Academy Awards. Maryam Touzani made her feature debut with Adam, premiering at Cannes and earning 30 awards globally. She joined the Academy of Motion Pictures and later presented The Blue Caftan at Cannes in 2022.
