Based on the autobiography of Sonia S, Bird of a Different Feather is a coming-of-age story of Sonia, a 12-year-old girl with albinism. Sonia comes from a poor family in a small village near Bengaluru. At the cusp of high school, Sonia joins a new school in the city, where she faces classmates who are not only discriminatory about her appearance but openly hostile. Her teacher, Ashwini, favours the brightest students and pushes those who struggle to the back rows, making Sonia’s adjustment even harder. Hampered by vision problems, she can’t follow the lessons on the blackboard. Will she find a way to make peace with herself — and with the world around her?
