DIFF’s Community Outreach initiatives are an important part of its overall vision to promote and develop a cinema culture in the Dharamshala area. Every year, in the lead up to the festival, DIFF organises free film screenings in local schools, colleges, universities, community groups, and at the Dharamshala District Jail. These events are followed by in-depth moderated discussions that reflect on the themes and issues explored in the films.
Some of the educational institutes where DIFF has conducted screenings are: Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP), Government College Dharamshala, B.Ed College, Wood Whistlers International School, and Gamru Village School. Over 1500 students have attended these screenings.
DIFF also partners with local NGO Jagori Rural Charitable Trust to organise film screenings in villages and to women groups around Dharamshala. Over 2000 people have attended these screenings.
A special thanks to DIFF’s alumni filmmakers who have given us permission to show their films as part of the community outreach initiative.
