The Egyptian Revolution has been an ongoing rollercoaster over the past two and a half years. Through the news, we only get a glimpse of the bloodiest battle, an election, or a million man march. At the beginning of July 2013, we witnessed the second president deposed within the space of three years.
Ā The Square is an immersive experience, transporting the viewer deeply into the intense emotional drama and personal stories behind the news. It is the inspirational story of young people claiming their rights, struggling through multiple forces, in the fight to create a society of conscience.
Jehane Noujaim
Jehane Noujaimis an award winning filmmaker and an Academy Award nominated director. In 2014, Noujaim directed and produced The Square, which won the Directors Guild Award and the International Documentary Award, among otherĀ international film festival selections and awards.
Noujaim has produced and directed several other award winning films among them Rafea, Solar Mama (2013), Control Room (2004) and Startup.com (2001) Noujaimās work has been exhibited at international festivals such as Sundance, Toronto, Berlin, Amsterdam, Dubai, has been shown in theaters and broadcast globally. Since graduating Magna Cum Laude from Harvard, she has dedicated her life to directing and producing films between the US and the Middle East.
Noujaim currently lives between Cairo, New York and Los Angeles.
