Quang, a queer man with a quirky sense of fashion, dresses down whenever he returns to his quiet hometown in northern Vietnam. His older sister Mai struggles to distinguish reality from visions. While Quang sees her as a creative force, their mother Cuc views her two divergent children as a karmic debt, longing instead for a traditional family and grandchildren. When Mai unexpectedly becomes pregnant, the family finds itself unprepared for their new roles as grandmother, mother and uncle. Sensing that this new cycle of motherhood will transform them forever, Quang picks up his camera and starts making a time capsule – this very film.
