Poster - Young Mothers | Jeunes Meres

Jessica, Perla, Julie, and Ariane are teenage girls living in a maternal care home in Liège, preparing to become mothers. Caught between adolescence and adulthood, they navigate poverty, depression, and addiction, struggling to build a future for themselves and their unborn children. In this pressure cooker of fragile hope and hard reality, they must grow up fast – to give their children the love and stability they themselves never knew.

Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne, collectively referred to as the Dardenne Brothers, began their careers as documentary directors. Beginning with La Promesse (1996), they turned to narrative filmmaking and established themselves as world renowned masters by winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes twice, for Rosetta (1999) and L′Enfant (2005). Their major works include The Son (2002), Lorna’s Silence (2008, winner of Best Screenplay at Cannes), The Kid with a Bike (2011, winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes), Young Ahmed (2019, winner of Best Director at Cannes), and Tori and Lokita (2022, winner of the 75th Anniversary Special Prize at Cannes).
