STATE OF STATELESSNESS | SATHAI LEWANG – Dharamshala International Film Festival

State of Statelessness, the first-ever Tibetan-language anthology feature film, explores the profound themes of statelessness and migration through four poignant stories of Tibetans living in exile. Directed by Tibetan filmmakers in India, America, and Vietnam, the film captures the painful realities of a scattered people, from a father’s tale of the Mekong River to a son’s discovery of a family secret in Dharamshala.

Tsering Tashi Gyalthang

Tsering Tashi Gyalthang is a Tibetan filmmaker and artist based in Vietnam. His short films have screened at Cannes Short Film Corner and Oberhausen Short Film Festival.

Sonam Tseten

Sonam Tseten is a Dharamshala-based independent filmmaker. Born in Tibet, he came into exile to India as a young boy. He is one of the co-founders of Drung Tibetan Filmmakers’ Collective.

Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin

Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin have been making films on Tibetan subjects for more than 30 years through their production company, White Crane Films.

Tenzin Tsetan Choklay

Tenzin Tsetan Choklay is a Tibetan filmmaker based in New York and Dharamshala. He studied film directing at the Korean Academy of Film Arts in South Korea and is a co-founder of Drung Tibetan Filmmakers’ Collective.
