In this restrained Australian drama, renowned war photographer Daniel Fisher—who is suffering from PTSD—returns home to the news of his wife’s pregnancy. Determined not to let fatherhood alter his way of life, he begins preparations for an upcoming exhibition and his next overseas assignment. However, as the birth of his child draws near, Daniel struggles to hide his rising anxiety.
Meanwhile, South Sudanese refugee Sebastian Aman, who has built a peaceful life in Australia with his wife and child, is disturbed to learn that Daniel’s exhibition is set to display photographs of a massacre in his home village, 15 years earlier.
When Sebastian appeals to Daniel not display the images, an unlikely friendship develops between the two men—one that both challenges Daniel’s creative control and unearths some disturbing details about Sebastian’s past.
