In an era when scheming Marathi politicians use violence to rid Maharashtra of
Bihari migrants, we meet Bhonsle, a dying Bombay sub-inspector who has just
been retired against his will. A solitary figure all his life—and that rare breed of
policeman who has more regard for the human condition than the rulebook—
Bhonsle suddenly finds himself forging a friendship with young Sita and little
Lalu, his new Bihari neighbours. Living in a mostly Marathi tenement, they are
harassed by boorish political goon Vilasrao and turn to Bhonsle for help. The
ageing cop stands up to the challenge, finding one last battle worth fighting. But
Bhonsle’s noble, desperate actions result in unexpectedly violent consequences,
which he must either face or risk losing the only two people in the world he has
come to love.

Where is that line that demarcates boundaries? Who decides who stands inside and who stands outside of that line? If each of our histories is traced back far enough are we all not migrants to our lands in some way or another?”
