This dizzying action comedy is set in the small, crowded Keralan town of Angamaly, where it only takes a dirty look to set off the hair-trigger tempers of the local gang members. The story revolves around Vincent Pepe, beginning with his days as a choirboy at a Catholic school. When Pepe and his gang grow up, they open a lucrative pig farm—making a profit by undercutting two tough brothers who have served time for murder and are now kings of the pork trade. In the punishing skirmishes that follow, two ‘local bombs’ go off that change Pepe’s life forever—but not his fight-or- die attitude, which takes precedence over the women who pass through his life.

Born in Thrissur, Kerala, Lijo Jose Pellissery – an alumnus of Bangalore university – works within the ‘Mollywood’ (Malayalam – language) film industry. He has directed five major features over the past seven years, including Nayakan (2010), City of God (2011), Amen (2013) and the experimental Double Barrel (2015). Commenting on the cast of Angamaly Diaries, Lijo says, “They were all from Angamaly except a few I picked from elsewhere. The great thing was that they all knew the town and its ethos inside out.” He adds, “It could have happened anywhere in the world. We don’t have too many Malayalam films that focus on strong local cultures and that is what got the film extra attention.”
